Subliminal, softly blended or audible: which one suits you?
When you create a Lume Alchemy track, you decide how present your voice is: completely subliminal, softly blended or clearly audible. Each level has its own feel. Here's how to choose.
Clearly audible: hear every word
Your voice sits alongside the music and every word is easy to understand. This feels most like a guided practice.
- Good for: mornings, getting used to your affirmations, focusing on the words consciously.
- Consider: it asks for some attention, so it's less suitable while you work or fall asleep. Two voice layers at once can sound busy at this level, so one layer usually works best.
Softly blended: a gentle presence
Your voice is part of the sound. You can make out the words when you listen closely, and let them fade into the background when you don't.
- Good for: reading, walking, relaxing, and anyone who likes to tune in and out.
- Consider: a nice middle ground if you're not sure yet.
Subliminal: beneath the music
Your voice sits so quietly beneath the music that you no longer consciously make out the words. You hear the music and perhaps a faint murmur. Read more about what subliminal affirmations are, including what research does and doesn't show.
- Good for: background listening during work, study or before sleep.
- Consider: a second voice layer makes the words even harder to make out and fills the gaps between affirmations.
What changes at each level
Behind the scenes, the difference is simply the volume of your voice compared to the music:
In the track builder you can also fine-tune anything in between with the volume slider.
One or two voice layers?
A second layer plays the same affirmations offset in time, one on the left and one on the right. At a subliminal level, that's useful: the voices overlap, the words become even harder to make out and the gaps between your affirmations disappear. At a clearly audible level, two voices at once can sound busy, so one layer usually feels calmer.
Try the three-preview test
- Start the 20-second preview with your voice set to clearly audible.
- Switch to softly blended while it plays, then to subliminal.
- Close your eyes for the last few seconds and notice which version feels most restful or most motivating.
Your first reaction is usually a good guide.
A simple way to choose
- Want to consciously repeat your intentions? Choose clearly audible.
- Want your affirmations with you, without effort? Choose softly blended.
- Want a calm soundscape with your intentions quietly underneath? Choose subliminal.
Many people start audible, to get to know their affirmations, and later create a subliminal version for everyday background listening. See also our guide on when and how to listen.
Hear the difference before you order
In the track builder you can switch between subliminal, softly audible and clearly audible during the 20-second preview and hear the change instantly. Choose what feels right, then create your 30-minute track.
Create your own track
Record your affirmations in your own voice and turn them into a 30-minute track with calm music and an optional frequency. Listen to a free preview first.
